Follow-Up Team: October ‘12 Report

As we enter the final quarter of 2012, we want to update you on the One Church campaign. God is doing a marvelous work in our midst.

A quick update on our first One Church project: The steel work framing for the exterior addition at our Carthage Campus is almost complete. Sheet rocking of the interior walls of the facility is almost complete and painting will be starting soon.

The Carthage Campus is seeing God at work as He is drawing people to Himself. In June, 12 people were baptized at Carthage and during August 15 individuals responded in obedience to baptism. This month at Discovering Forest Park 28 attended, and all of them joined or are planning to join our church. We are seeing lives changed and families and marriages healed.

The update on One Church giving: with 29% of the time elapsed, 34% of the pledges have been given. As you faithfully give to the Lord, not only can the Carthage facility be completed, but we can move ahead with the other One Church projects at each campus.

Solomon, who was able to carry out the building of God’s temple, asked God for wisdom and knowledge. God gave him the wisdom necessary not only to build the temple, but to reign with wisdom. As we seek God’s desires for Forest Park, may we have wisdom to build and improve our facilities and to minister to spiritual needs, promoting spiritual growth in peoples’ lives at each campus.

Thank you all so much for your continued faithfulness to give to One Church. For those who haven’t begun giving and wish to participate, giving to One Church is simple. You may use the building fund box on a regular offering envelope or go to forestpark.tv and use the One Church option in the online giving tab.

God bless you as you prayerfully consider what He is asking you to do as you invest in His work and the future of Forest Park.

10/15/12 Update from Pastor John

I’ll start with a confession: I didn’t used to believe I had a responsibility to help the poor. I used the most common rationalizations: “we’re just feeding the cycle of dependency,” I thought. On my worst days, I even used the cold hearted line, “why don’t they just get a job?” But then I looked up many of the 300+ Bible verses that address this subject and I got convicted. In Luke 12:33 Jesus said, “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.” I’m a guy that takes the teaching of Jesus seriously. I had given a little to ministries that help the poor, but I had never sold any of my possessions to do so. “Selling to give” implies much more involvement…
